We have a 2016 XC90 which has generally been in good condition. Last spring we started to notice low oil warnings, and slowly the car began to eat up more oil. The gasket was subsequently replaced, but the car's oil gauge continued to go down. Recently some testing was done on the car, and we were told that the car needs new pistons and for that reason, and brand new engine. We live in the UK and were quoted a complete engine replacement for £10000 ($13000). We contacted the Volvo company and they gave us a 30% compensation towards an engine replacement. However, this still seems like a ton of money wasted on a 5 year old car. We are about 1 year out on paying off the car loan. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone happen to know any mechanics in the Peterborough,UK area who specialize in XC90s?

we had a similar issue with our 2016 diesel xc90, we reported strange noises, but volvo couldn’t replicate, then half a year on car kept loosing oil but no leak could be found, they replaced casket, then a month on car was back in with volvo , with low oil, which ended in needing to replace bottom end of engine costing us £4.5k, this was july 2021, currently have ongoing case with motor ombudsman’s against volvo poole, for poor service, as car as been in and out like a yo-yo

I seem to be at the beginning of this cycle now with my 2016 XC90. Took it in this past June and they replaced the gasket at no cost and my mileage was 79k. Then, we had the low oil light come on at 85k in mid-Sept. Now we are towards the end of Nov and I noticed the oil levels dropping in my car status. Just put more oil in at 86k. In addition to that, my back right tire sensor seems to be going bad as that message comes on that it can't get a reading and service is needed. Tire seems perfectly fine. Power steering assistance message has come on a few times. Guess I'll have to have all of these things checked out but curious if others have had the oil issue?
